We are a lively and enthusiastic group of around 30 members and rehearse weekly on Thursdays, from 7pm – 10pm, at the Bridgtown Primary School in Cannock.

Backstreet has grown so much in the 10 years we have been performing. We started off as a small group of 8 members looking to perform shows that other societies in the area would shy away from. Our first production was “Rent” in 2011 which had a cast of 17. “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” and “Songs for a New World” were our 2 ventures for 2012, “Jekyll & Hyde” in 2013, “Our House” in 2014 , “Into the Woods” in May 2015, “Working” in March 2016 , “Rock of Ages” in March 2017 and Made in Dagenham in November 2017, and most recently “The Wedding Singer” in September 2019 . We have also performed 3 full scale concerts “Life After Rent”, “An Evening of Musical Theatre” and “Sincerely Us” and five pantomimes – 2015 & 2019 “Cinderella”, 2016 “Dick Whittington”, “Sleeping Beauty in 2017 and “Jack & The Beanstalk” in 2018.

We have always worked very hard at fundraising. We are a non-profit organisation and need to raise funds throughout the year in order to put on our shows. Over the years we have working with the local council on various projects, we have sang at parties, functions and residential homes and we have packed lots of bags in supermarkets – all helping the the group to put on a high standard production each year. One of our biggest achievements was reaching the summit of Snowdon – this was a great sponsored event and also a brilliant team bonding experience.

 

We were thrilled to receive the NODA award for “Best Musical” in our district in 2013 for our production of “Jekyll & Hyde”. This was our first year as members of NODA – so it was an honour even to be nominated. We were equally thrilled to be nominated again for “Our House” in 2014 and for “Into the Woods” in 2015. In 2018 we were again honoured to win “Best Musical” for “Made in Dagenham” and in 2020 we received a special award for creative lighting and innovative choreography in numerous productions.

 

 

At the heart of our company is our fabulous Choreographer/Director, Michelle Windsor. Her vast choreography knowledge and experience of working on a huge variety of shows means she knows exactly what it takes to put together a hit show. Her vision, in terms of what she knows we can achieve and how to bring it out in us, has lead to the huge success of our nine main productions. Each production Michele’s visions grow and one day we may have to hire a west end theatre just to show her talent to its full potential.

It may sound cheesy but Backstreet really are a “family”. We work so hard to put on the most professional show possible and at fundraising – each member of the group is integral to everything we do! We all love what we do are are really proud of the group we have created in the last 10 years xx
